Hey Nineteen is an instantly recognisable classic Steely Dan piece of music. It is a quirkily appealing number, with a commercial, breezily soulful ambience and a great harmonica solo too. Glamour Profession has an easy, almost disco riff to it, together with that very late seventies/early eighties light orchestration to it/5().

Coherency versus punch. The SACD wins on audiophile points, the record scores as a coherent, musical medium. The SACD highlights the individual instruments and the voice stands out more. There appears to be more going on on the SACD. The SACD also does a better job on the drumkit - more punch. And there is more headroom.

Find album reviews, stream songs, credits and award information for Gaucho - Steely Dan on AllMusic - - Aja was cool, relaxed, like on the suave "Babylon Sisters," "Time Out of Mind," and "Hey Nineteen." Still, those three songs are barely enough to make the remainder of the album's glossy, meandering fusion worthwhile. 8/

“Hey Nineteen” is the squalid centerpiece of the concept album that is Gaucho. Steely’s protagonist here is a pathetic aging dude attempting to put the moves on a year old by bragging about his.
  7. Tahn says:
The thing you begin to notice, listening to Steely Dan's songs, is that no one ever answers anyone. For all the talk — and their latest album, Gaucho, is as compulsively chatty as dinne.
  8. Tygok says:
13 rows · In a career filled with casually cruel songs, "Hey Nineteen" is probably Steely Dan 's most .
  9. Voodoojind says:
Hal Leonard 's Best of Steely Dan explains that Gaucho is "a concept album of seven interrelated tales about would-be hipsters." The lyrics of "Hey Nineteen" are about an aging hipster attempting to pick up a girl who is so young that she does not recognize " 'Retha Franklin " playing on the stereo.
